Questions about our products, safety and how they can be used

Straitjackets - CSJ, also for Boot and Hood

The straitjacket (sj) attacks our emotions with fear, anxiety, excitement, security, challenge and threat to say the least;

They are still used in correctional facilities and some hospitals. Straitjackets are made to challenge the escape artist, amateur and professional;

Caught-In-The-Act makes straitjackets for those that believe there is a new, tougher, if not impossible escape to perform;

The focus here is strictly on the professional safe, sane and consensual use of the straitjacket (sj) for: the ultimate of personal escape/challenges, as an escape artist's performance prop, or as a theater prop.

 Price Versus Quality

Most commercial medical straitjackets use a lighter weight cotton fabric than we do. By design, the commercial jackets have a loose fit and meant for short term usage, often easy to escape with a little effort.

We design our jackets for good comfort and appearance, as well as the higher certainty of non-escape, except for the very best.

The Protector, and Psycho have no commercial equivalent . We use double pivot jaw slider buckle, side release plastic buckles or optional locking biothane collar, d-rings, and other straps (depending on the model), all machine washable.

Each straitjacket is reinforced to make it durable for the struggles of a challenge escape or suspension.

Correctional Facilities and Hospitals have standards that we exceed. For performances, theater, film, and escape artists, the Caught-In-The-Act straitjacketsare much stronger for durability and challenge.

Safety

Safety is paramount so never use a straitjacket as a means of suspending a person. D- rings on the straitjackets are meant as attachment points for safety reasons where a wearer is unsupported and could cause injury without safety lines attached.   Well trained and experienced persons may attempt suspension of persons in a straitjacket; however, Caught-In-The-Act does not accept responsibility for accident or injury to persons or the equipment in use. See the waiver at the website entrance.

We think our products will last a very long time, but if they should ever need a repair, it is a service to our customers.

Be sure to check with your countries customs and duty before sending back to us. We do not accept returns that have duty and customs charges.

Cotton Materials Used

The cotton straitjackets and sleepsacks are constructed of 100% imported #8, unbleached cotton duck - much heavier than commercial hospital straight jackets. Each strap has a heavy pivot jaw lock slider buckle that needs two hands to open easily. These straitjackets and bodybags are machine washable.

Comfort Tip

Allowing the sleeves to be slightly loose, the wearer can enjoy many hours of continuous wear. Soreness in the arms and shoulders may develop and the time varies from person to person. For extra long term enclosure without significant discomfort you may want to vary the positions at least every four hours. The Internet has many resources where advanced information is available on safe usage of restraints. It is important to understand the limitations and risks of injury in using all such devices.

 Definition

The term 'non-escapable' refers to a product that when sized and put on correctly cannot be removed by the user without external assistance. The three or four sleeve loops and the single or double crotch strap make escape very difficult, whether cinched tight or loose. An escape artist may accept the challenge to escape but there is no easy way out of our products. Escape artists should consider having us design a custom straitjacket or bodybag specifically for their needs.

Important Safety Warning: It is not recommended to attempt to go solo in any resrtaint device. Comments have been received to indicate that you might get in but you cannot get out because no matter how you do up the zipper, it needs external help to undo. Trying to tear the bag as an emergency means of escape is not easy to do, if at all. Be Safe in practicing your escapes.

Cotton duck can intensify the sensory experience of wearing inner layers of lycra, latex or leather by example: wearing a latex cat suit, rubber dry suit, or leather;

Washing Instructions Cotton

Cotton will pick up stains. Unbleached cotton is an all natural fibre that will permanently stain over time. Follow the directions on soap and special cleaners for removing stains from Cotton.

Wash products in cool or warm water, never hot. Pre-treat heavy stains if needed. Fabric softner is recommended. Hang to dry for 24-48 hours then tumble on delicate or air in a dryer to soften.

Use of hot water or dryer will cause the cotton to shrink. While all cotton is pre-washed and shrunk it may shrink another 5%. Normally after a wash the product will shrink but stretch out again as it is worn.

Ends of webbing straps or cotton fabric may fray in time, we suggest sewing or applying a hot glue or 5 minute epoxy to stop fraying.
